God's Vision For Us
Christ-centered disciples, reaching out to be a light to the world.

You’ve seen it in many places and in different fonts. We know what it means, but we’re not sure exactly what it looks like. It’s the vision of Pilgrim Lutheran: to be a light unto the world.

We have an amazing new sanctuary here at Pilgrim. But Pilgrim Lutheran Church is more than a building. It is a place of relationships and ministry, and every member is called to build and nurture both. But how? There’s not an easy answer; there are myriad ways to be a light unto the world. However, none of them matter if we never take the first step. That’s where Equipping Ministries comes in. At Pilgrim, we want to ensure that anyone interested in exploring ways in which their time and talents can help others is “equipped” with the training and resources to fulfill that mission. You see, Jesus didn’t leave us an option when he told us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28). He DID leave us the option of HOW we could do this.

Equipping Ministries wants to support the gifted people of Pilgrim and support their ministries as they “build up the body of Christ.”

The ultimate goal of Equipping Ministries is to create a whole life ministry for people, so that who they are, in and through the church, extends to who they are in their workplaces, their communities and their families. The range of ministry opportunities is enormous. Some people coordinate food and clothing drives for those in need. Some deliver welcome baskets to new members, while others use their skills to build wheelchair ramps for those who need them. A couple chaperones a youth mission trip.  Then, of course, there are the more “traditional” ministries of serving on committees, singing or playing an instrument during worship, or teaching Sunday School. It’s important to understand that all of these services are ministries, carried out by people just like you. You don’t have to have a seminary education to be in ministry; you just need to discover what your gifts are, then start using them to help people. In this way you serve Christ and his Church.

It’s easy to get started.
