Frequently Asked Questions
What do each of your services feel like?
The Matins Service (8:00 AM) is a quiet, contemplative service that lasts about 30 minutes. All the elements of a Traditional Service are present without the music. Holy Communion is observed each week. Dress varies from “coat and tie” to “casual but neat.”
The Traditional Service (8:45 AM) follows the standard Lutheran Liturgy. Communion is celebrated every Sunday. Traditional hymns are sung and accompanied by organ or piano, and the adult choir provides the offertory selection. Bulletins are provided (by ushers in the entrance area) as a guide for the service. Dress varies from “coat and tie” to “casual but neat.”
The Contemporary Service (11:00 AM) is a celebration service with contemporary praise music provided by Six:33, our praise band. This service begins with our confession and God’s forgiveness, followed hearing God’s word, reciting of the Apostle’s Creed and Lord’ Prayer, and Holy Communion each week. All responses are projected onto the screen at the front of the sanctuary, as well as the words to the songs. The sermons are also supported with visuals and video clips. Dress is casual.
Do I have to bring a Bible with me?
If you have your own Bible, by all means bring it with you! We use the New Revised Standard Version in our worship services. We encourage all disciples to read their Bible daily, and the best version to have is the one you’ll read! However, if you do not currently have a Bible of your own, Bibles are provided in the pew rack. You are welcome to take one of these home with you.
Do I need to give an offering if I’m just visiting?
Visitors are not expected to give financially. As members of Pilgrim, we are committed to being obedient to God, to let Him guide us in becoming a first fruits and tithing congregation.
What are your procedures for new membership?
If you are interested in membership at Pilgrim, you will be asked to attend a Discipleship Orientation class with the Pastor. This class is held on a Sunday afternoon for about 2 hours, with childcare provided if needed. During this time, the Pastor talks about what we believe as Lutheran Christians and as Christians here at Pilgrim. After attending this class you can make the decision to join us in membership here at Pilgrim.
Is there a nursery for my small children?
Childcare, for infants and preschool children, is available during our worship service. The Nursery is located on the first floor of the education building and you will be given a pager in case you are needed during the service. We also have a cry room for parents and young children which is located in the narthex.
